Why, Yes, we do! (Isn't that Swell?!)
What fun to be growing our company this year. What fun to be doing it in our beloved Maine. What fun to be researching new suppliers and digging into design ideas and inspiration, spending long hours on sketches we have been harboring in our minds for quite a long time now.
We begin our blogging career with a little straight forward bio on The Swell Company and how it came to be...and together...we'll go from there.

Welcome to The Swell Company!
Now entering its 12th year in business, The Swell Company was founded in Maine by designer, Kate Yoder.
Born into an entrepreneurial family, five-year-old Katey began making friendship bracelets and doll house miniatures, telling her parents she was going to have a booth at a craft fair near their home on Peaks Island, Maine. To the folks' credit (thanks, Mom & Dad...) they said "Okay!" And that was that.
Ideas and products, booths at summer festivals and arts and crafts fairs came and went. The five year old grew up a bit, and in 1999, Katey began knitting striped Christmas stockings for family gifts. They were a hit. An ad in DownEast Magazine, and one small website later - The Swell Company was born, opening its virtual doors in December 2000.
Since then, thanks to our customers (and a healthy dose of innocence regarding running a business in general!) we have continued to grow.
These days we are headquartered in an 1800's farmhouse and a very inspirational barn nestled in the picturesque countryside of western Maine.
Our products are made in Maine, designed by us, tested by our friends and family and created with great aplomb by a bevy of stay-at-home mothers, fathers, granddads and grandmas. Families working together. Cottage industry is an important part of our American economy, and we are proud to feature the work of these skilled local artisans.
